Motorcycle, Tiesto, Solarstone, Deepsky are just a few of the big names that Jes Brieden has worked with over the past few years. With a slew of hit club singles, including "As the Rush Comes" with Motorcycle, Jes is in constant demand for her magnetic live performances.

Sameer and Jacquelina caught up with Jes to interview her for TrancePodium.

Born in NYC, are there any particular elements within the city that aid in your inspiration for writing music?

Yes! I am such a city girl it’s crazy sometimes; I can’t believe I live halftime on the West Coast. I do most of my writing in NYC and most of my recording in LA. The city is one of the most important elements in my writing. I live in downtown but I spend a lot of time walking around the reservoir in Central Park. I love to go just when the sun is going down and I really love going early in the morning because NYC has so many different kinds of weather and certain times in the park are just so beautiful. You really get a lot of different moods from the park that is why I would definitely say Central Park is an inspiration there.

I know that you’ve departed from Motorcycle, since the departure do you still keep in contact with the rest of the group, any plans for an upcoming collaboration/reunion?

Yes, we sort of all did our own things afterwards but we do keep in touch. We all live in different parts of the world, but when we have certain events like WMC and other shows in the same vicinity, I do see them.

You use the alias TaxiGirl, where did TaxiGirl come from?

I do use the alias Taxigirl because I am from the city. When I moved to LA I was forming one of my companies and I really needed something that reflected NYC. So, I named it Taxigirl and of course I did Highglow under that monger.

You’re probably the most dominate female vocalist in the industry, what female vocalists do you admire out there, and would you team up with any for a production?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAYING THAT. definitely, there are so many amazing vocalist out there. I have done shows with most of them and yes we have spoken about things like that in the past. Everyone is really busy doing their records but we are all very supportive of each other and I definitely think there is a duet out there in the future for sure.

I have seen you perform live in South Africa with Tiesto in 2007 (we actually met for a short while). What would you say is your favorite location to engulf with your vocal brilliance?

Awww that’s so incredible that you were there! We had to play right after the Rugby World Cup, so I had to go on with the big screens up and about 10,000 people watching the competition. I was praying that SA won because I would have been in a lot of trouble if they didn’t, but they did and it was a great show. A favorite location is such a hard question and people ask me that all the time. There is just something amazing about every place I go. I don’t think there is any place that I haven’t liked. When you are traveling to other countries the culture is so different and I find amazing aspects in every place. I love Malaysia and Latin America and did some cool shows in the Ukraine. I can say one of my favorite places is Prague.

Speaking of Tiesto, what would your favorite "In Search of Sunrise" compilation and Tiesto tune be?

My favorite Tiesto tune would have to be Traffic. It just screams Tiesto and I love the energy. I love it because it is kind of crazy and really driving and fun. As for the ISOS series, I love them all but #4 and #6 are my favorites.

As a vocalist what would we say were your influences?

There are so many but I love Tom Yorke, Kate Bush, Bjork, Deborah Harry, Elizabeth Frasier, Elton John, Sarah M., Tori Amos, Madonna, Roberta Flack, Chaka Kahn, and so many others. Many types of creative and talented artists influence me. Everyday, I find a new band or artist to draw inspiration from.

Considering the fact that we have previously met briefly, I ask this with reasonable high hope: Miss Jes, may I have your mobile number?

Well actually yes you can, I will be releasing a new thing for my fans to call and leave me a voice mail, so be on the look out for that.
